5 Signs Your Child’s Behaviour Is Out of Control — And What To Do Instead

5 Signs Your Child’s Behaviour Is Out of Control — And What To Do Instead.

When Emma first reached out to me, she was running on fumes.

Her son was doing brilliantly at school — polite, focused, a joy to teach, according to his teacher.

But at home?

It was like a completely different child.

He didn’t listen to a word she said.
He shouted, argued, stormed off, and constantly hurt his younger brother — hitting, pushing, snatching toys just to get a reaction.
Every moment felt chaotic. Every day was a whirlwind.
And it never let up.

Emma told me, “Being at work is more relaxing than being at home. I’m constantly on edge. I dread the moment school ends because I know what’s coming.”

She felt like she was failing — like there must be something she was doing wrong.
But she also felt too ashamed to admit just how hard things had become.

Maybe you’ve felt that way too.

If so, here are 5 Signs Your Child’s Behaviour Is Out of Control

– and might be more than just “a phase” — and a sign it’s time to try something different.

5 Signs Your Child's Behaviour Is Out of Control

1. Defiance, Not Listening, and Refusing to Cooperate

You ask them to stop. They keep going.
You repeat yourself ten times — and still nothing.
You try to stay calm, but they dig in their heels, push your buttons, and do the exact opposite of what you ask.

It’s not cheeky — it’s constant.

You start off strong:
“No, you can’t have chocolate for breakfast.”
But after the shouting, the arguing, the slammed doors — and everything else you’ve already handled that morning — you give in.
Not because you want to. Not because you don’t care.
But because you’re done. You’re exhausted.

You think, “Pick your battles…”
But lately, it feels like every single thing is a battle.

2. Difficulty Controlling Emotions

One minute they’re playing happily. The next?
Screaming, sobbing, hitting, throwing things across the room — and you have no idea what triggered it.

It’s like flicking a switch.
There’s no build-up, no warning — just boom. Explosion.

And it’s not just the outburst itself. It’s how long it lasts.
You try to help them calm down, but nothing works.
They scream louder when you talk gently.
They push you away when you try to hold them.

By the end, you’re the one in tears.
And then it happens all over again tomorrow.

3. Poor Impulse Control

You tell them, “Don’t hit your brother.”
Thirty seconds later — whack.
You tell them not to snatch the toy, and they grab it anyway.
You ask them to stop jumping on the sofa — and they double down, grinning at you while they do it again.

And when you try to talk about it?
You get the shrug. Or the blank stare. Or the meltdown.

You’re left thinking, “He knows better than this… why does he keep doing it?”

So you try all the things you’re “meant” to:
You do the time-outs.
You take away the toy, the screen, the fun plans.
You explain the rules, stay calm, follow through.

But nothing sticks. Nothing changes.
You feel like you’re doing everything “right” — and still getting nowhere.

And deep down, you’re starting to wonder:
“Is this just what parenting is meant to feel like?” “Is there something wrong with him — or with me?”

The 5 Signs Your Child’s Behaviour Is Out Of Control. So if you’ve been nodding along…

If you’ve tried all the things, and you’re still stuck in the same exhausting cycle —
That doesn’t mean you’re not doing enough. It means you’ve been missing a piece of the puzzle.

Because this isn’t about being more consistent, or finding the perfect consequence.
It’s about finally understanding what’s really going on beneath your child’s behaviour.

And it’s probably not what your GP, school, therapist, or any of the professionals you’ve asked have told you.

Because most support focuses on what to do.
I help you understand why it’s happening in the first place — and that changes everything.

And once you see it through that lens — things start to shift.
Not because you’re trying harder, but because you finally know what works.

Let Me Show You Another Way When Your Child’s Behaviour Is Out Of Control

5 Signs Your Child's Behaviour Is Out of Control

This is what I told Emma — and what I’ll tell you now:

There’s nothing wrong with you or your child. You just haven’t been shown what’s really going on — yet.

What you’re dealing with isn’t because you’ve been too soft or too strict.
It’s not because you’re doing it wrong. or ‘letting your child get away with it!’

It’s not that your child’s behaviour is bad — it’s that no one ever showed you how human behaviour really works.

Because once you learn to look at it differently — not just as something to fix or stop, but as something to understand — it’s like a light switch turns on.

Suddenly, it all starts to make sense. You can finally say, “Ohhh… of course!”

That’s what I do when your child’s behaviour is out of control.

I help you see things in a completely new way — so you’re not just reacting anymore, you’re understanding.

  • I don’t just give you things to try.
  • I show you why it’s happening in the first place.
  • And when you understand that?
  • You feel empowered. Clear. In control.

And the best part? This work doesn’t just change your child’s behaviour.

My clients tell me they use it everywhere — at work, in friendships, even with their own parents.
It changes the way they see all their relationships.
Because once you understand what’s really driving behaviour — everything else starts to fall into place.

5 Signs Your Child's Behaviour Is Out of Control

And after a few weeks of working with me, Emma saw a completely different child… and felt like a different mum.

  • Her son stopped lashing out. He actually listened to her.
  • Sibling fights were down to the occasional grumble.
  • Her house felt calmer.
  • And most of all, she liked being a mum again.

She messaged me one evening and said: “He actually listened to me — without a meltdown, without shouting. I said no… and he just accepted it. For the first time, I felt calm. In control. Like I actually knew what I was doing.”

That’s what’s possible — for you too.

A girl I trained with went on to do a PhD in child development — and even she said, “They never taught me this stuff.”

Because this work? It’s different.
It’s not mainstream, but it’s life-changing.

You don’t need more advice.
You need a new way to see your child — and yourself.

  • No more throwing spaghetti at the wall.
  • No more crying in the bathroom
  • No more “surviving the day.”

I’m really good at this.
And if you’re ready for real, lasting change — I’m here.
